Thank you to the wonderful yarners who have made squares and assembled blankets or made completed blankets for Yarning Bundaberg Project Square 2020
The project created over 50 blankets, which have been given to community groups in the Bundaberg region.
Project Square is about giving community groups in the Bundaberg Region crochet/knitted blankets, which in turn they could give out to those in need, use as a raffle prize or however the community group feels it best suit their needs.
There will be two parts to creating the Project Square blankets;
Between January and August we ask that you make and donate as many granny squares as you can. They can be all different colours and/or patterns remembering that a blanket could end up in the hands of a child or adult, male or female. .
Part 2 Between July and October, we will be assembling the squares into blankets.
Size: 25cm Square
Yarn: 8ply
Yes, you are more than welcome to make and donate a blanket. When making a completed blanket, you can use any type of yarn.
We are always grateful for yarn donations, please get in contact with Yarning Bundaberg and we can work out the finer details.
What Yarn Can I Use?
We ask that you please don’t use any fancy yarn (ie loopy, fringed or very textured), as it makes matching and assembling the squares difficult. Variegated yarn is not classed as fancy yarn (it does look fancy though).
If you are using a yarn that is not acrylic, could you please label your squares with what type of yarn you have used.
What size Crochet Hook do I use with 8 ply yarn?
4mm hook is usually recommenced with 8 ply yarn, but you may need to change your hook side depending on your tension. Tension too tight - go up a size. Tension too loose – go down a size.
What size Knitting Needle do I use with 8 ply yarn?
4mm needle is usually recommenced with 8 ply yarn.
How many stitches to do I need to cast on for knitting?
Using 8ply yarn and 4mm needles, approx. 50 to 55 stitches – but this will depend on your tension.
Do I need to block my square?
We prefer that you do not block your square, as blocking may make it harder to line up during blanket assembly.
Do I need to sew in the ends?
Yes, if possible please ensure all ends have been sewn in.
